Money saving tip: Free mobile phone directory

You no longer need to pay your cell phone provider for directory calls.  Google offers a free cell phone directory for business listings called, GOOG-411.  You simply dial 800-GOOG-411 (800-466-4411) from your cell phone.  Of course you can use the service from a land line dialing 1-800-466-4411.

 Using the service is easy since they use really good voice recognition software.  Here is how a call would go:

  1. Dial 800-466-4411
  2. GOOG 411, What city and state?  Portland, Oregon
  3. Portland, Oregon.  What business name or category?  Jakes Crawfish house
  4. Jakes Crawfish house.  Searching If that’s not right say, go back.  Searching There was no direct match but here are related listing.  Jakes Famous Crawfish house.  To select number one say one or press one …    Number one
  5. Jakes Famous Crawfish house.  I’ll connect you

I like that the service is smart and can identify the business even if you didn’t get the name exactly correct.  I use the service enough that I have added it to my contact list.  I find the service very handy when travelling.
